Social Bookmarking

Social bookmarking is a way for internet users to store, classify, share and search Internet bookmarks.

On a social bookmarking system or network, users store lists of Internet resources that they find useful. These lists can be accessible to the public by users of a specific network or website. Other users with similar interests can view the links by topic, category, tags, or even randomly.

Other than web page bookmarks, services specialized to a specific subject or format — feeds, books, videos, shopping items, map locations, wineries, etc. — can be found.

Bookmarking your sites and getting others to bookmark your site is a good way to get your links out there for others to see as well as getting the search engine spiders to index you. Some search engines will only crawl websites that have been listed on social bookmark sites.

Below you will find a list with 150+ bookmarking sites. If you want the maximum exposure, I suggest you go through the list and bookmark at each applicable site. The time required to do this can be greatly reduced by downloading Roboform. If you do install Roboform, keep yourself organized and create a bookmarks folder to save your passcards in. It will make your life easier in the long run.

If you’re short on time, and want the most bang in one shot, you can use Onlywire.

This can be added on any page you like actually. As long as you are able to edit the html. So, if you were setting up blogs at blogger.com, you can do this also.

If you are running your own wordpress blog on your own hosting account, I suggest you download and install the Sociable Plugin. This allows you to select up to 61 bookmark icons to be added to the bottom of your posts, (Scroll towards the bottom of this page to see this plugin in action).

If you use Firefox as a browser, there are some nice social networking add-ons you can use.
